Lower Paleolithic (from 1.8 MY to - 300,000 years), La Baume Bonne (Quinson, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France) The crystalline structure of quartz prevents a good distribution of the shock wave produced by carving, but prehistoric men occasionally used this material. Here, it was exploited to produce a scraper, which is a wood or skin work tool. The edges have been trimmed by flaking off pieces around the outline to improve the resistance of the cutting edges.
