Pottery fragment with decoration made by pressing a Mediterranean shell, cardium edule into the fresh clay. The imprinted pattern is characteristic of the Cardial culture, the first major Neolithic culture in the northern Mediterranean are. The Cardial, or Cardium pottery culture was named after this cockle shell.
